Open Spaces

Reflecting both the tenets of New Urbanism and the beliefs of the developers, Tree Hill will continue to be a place of existing natural beauty and newly created open spaces when its Master Plan is executed. The 250 acres of open space in that plan range from formal plazas such as the Town Square to untouched areas of environmental importance around the property’s natural streams and wetlands. Tree-lined thoroughfares, ball fields and grassy parks within and among the neighborhoods will create an impressive openness and greenness of their own. Greenspace will be kept around the property’s old dairy barn, as well.

Preserved and enhanced for the benefit of both residents and visitors, the area fronting the James River will include a 150-acre James River Nature Area—sure to be one of the most popular places at Tree Hill with its new accessibility and the community’s passionate stewardship. Restoration of the riverfront will be integrated with stormwater management and wetland areas in an attractive and complementary way.

No residence at Tree Hill will be more than a 3-minute walk from open space of some kind. With an extensive network of bike trails through the community, getting back to nature will take even less time. This will be a community that is hospitable to both nature and nature lovers.
